Frankfurt

Frankfurt has a population of over 763,000 and is considered the fifth largest city in Germany, is one of the wealthiest metropolitan areas in Europe and is known as the central bank of Europe.

Sights in Frankfurt

The Cathedral of Saint Bartholomew is a Gothic building from the 14th and 15th centuries, in which the kings of the Holy Roman Empire were elected from 1356 and the Holy Roman Emperors were crowned from 1562 to 1792.

The Alte Oper was built in 1880. Until the late 1970s, it was nicknamed "Germany's most beautiful ruin". Finally, in response to public pressure, it was completely rebuilt and reopened in 1981. Today it serves as a concert hall.

The Museumsuferfest is one of the largest cultural festivals and attracts more than 3 million visitors over three days. It takes place every year at the end of August on both sides of the main river bank. More than 20 local museums are open at night. In addition, there are special attractions such as live bands, dance performances, several stalls selling handicrafts, jewellery, clothing and food from all over the world. This festival ends with a spectacular fireworks display.
